WEEKLY USA GRAIN AND PROTEIN REPORT – July 04, 2026

  Market situation for the week.

·        US corn prices --- no change, August to November.

·        US new crop soybean prices down by about USD 2 m/t after September.

·        US soymeal prices --- no change on the week.

·        US winter wheat – up by about USD 7 m/t.

·        US spring wheat – up by about USD 5 m/t.

Markets were more quiet than usual this week – perhaps getting ready for the USA’s 250th birthday today.

The USA weather forecast is for very hot weather for a few days with limited rainfall but most experts don’t seem to be ready to call the situation as drastic --- it will all depend on how long the heat lasts and how little the rainfall is.

The EU seems to be having a more serious heat wave --- only more serious because it started sooner and has already done damage. France, which is a major supplier of corn to much of the EU and the UK, could see corn production down by 2 to 4 million m/t which would certainly be a supply problem for the EU in 2027 as stocks dwindle. The EU’s corn import requirements may increase by 2+ million m/t in 2027. The USA should be in a good position to supply more corn to the EU unless the expected US heat wave is as bad as the EU one has been.

Not much more to say about the quiet US markets this week --- things will probably be more exciting next week.

SECTION 2 --- FISHMEAL COMMENTS AND PRICES: PERUVIAN “INDICATION” FISHMEAL PRICES:

Central/North Peru details: Quota 1,914,000 m/t, landed 471,100 m/t, fishmeal produced 116,900 m/t, fishoil produced 7,550 m/t --- balance on quota 1,442,900 m/t.

South Peru details : New quota 251,000 m/t, landed 00 m/t, fishmeal produced 000 – balance on quota 251,000 m/t to December 31 2026.

( fishmeal and fishoil production is estimated)

Still no fishing allowed in the Central/North region ---- trade reports point out that there has been no fishing in 49 days. We are all just waiting for the latest IMARPE results and recommendations.

Nothing new to say on prices in Peru as there is nothing to sell.

Peru’s fishmeal exports to the end of May are at 400,000 m/t which is 31% lower than last year’s 580,000 m/t.

Fingers are crossed by everyone in hopes of at least a few days fishing in July.

Peru’s new President – Ms. Keiko Fujimore – will be “official” on July 28 2026 ---- good luck to her as she is facing a tough time.

There has been a lot of international interest in fishmeal alternatives due to the situation in Peru and the record fishmeal price levels. Protein prices for other animal proteins and items like corn gluten meal have been pushed higher as buyers rush to find alternative protein supplies to replace fishmeal. Specific markets like aquaculture and pet food have been hit hard by the high fishmeal prices but most have moved into other proteins where possible. Soymeal is the most popular replacement but it is not always a good replacement to high-protein levels and high amino acids in fishmeal.
